Partnering with Parents

From the beginning Cor Deo Christian Academy has had two foundational pillars.

1. The Bible

2. Partnering with parents

What do we mean by partnering with parents?

Cor Deo Christian Academy takes the lead in:

1. The teachers we hire

2. The curriculum we choose

3. The schedule we set

4. The homework expectations we set

5. The academic standards we follow

We believe parents are responsible for the education and training of their children:

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4

And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Parents are responsible but able to delegate:

Moses’ father-in-law said to him, “What you are doing is not good. 18 You and the people with you will certainly wear yourselves out, for the thing is too heavy for you. You are not able to do it alone. 

Exodus 18:17-18 

Although not a Biblical phrase we find this term helpful:  In loco parentis

The term in loco parentis, Latin for “in the place of a parent” refers to the educational responsibility of a person or organization to take on some of the functions and responsibilities of a parent.

We believe that the fear (reverence/respect/awe) of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge:

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7

We believe in God’s design for the family:

18 Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them. 20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged. Colossians 3:18-21

We believe in following the principal set out by Jesus in Matthew 18 in regards to disagreements:

“If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. 16 But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. Matthew 18:15-16

It is important to understand that Cor Deo Christian Academy is a 5 day a week school.  There is work that needs to get done on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Different grade levels will have different parent involvement on Tuesdays and Thursdays:

Grades:  K-2         High Parent Involvement

Grades:  3-6          Medium Parent Involvement

Grades:  7-12        Low Parent Involvement


High:         punctuality, reading directions, explaining, organizing, correcting work

Medium:   punctuality, organizing, explaining, observing- correcting work

Low:          punctuality, encouraging, some correcting of work

Estimate of time on Tuesdays and Thursdays: (times vary for different students)

Kindergarten  1-2 hours
Grades 1-2  2-3 hours
Grades 3-4  3-4 hours
Grades 5-6  5-6 hours
Grades 7-8  7-10 hours
Grades 9-12  8-12 hours

We are open to students moving up or down grade levels. The following will be taken into account before

Permission is granted to move a student up or down grade levels:

1. Parental input

2. Test scores

3. Work Samples

4. Social maturity

5. Teacher observations

We reserve the right to accept or deny any requests for moving to a different grade level.
