Students begin the year with the history of America’s discovery and settlement. However, history is not just about the past, but how the past affects the future. Therefore, this course incorporates current events that stimulate the students to see the history impacting their lives today. Historical biographies and movies that accentuate the student’s learning make up a portion of their grade. Likewise, each semester the course requires the student to complete an individual project that enhances a deeper understanding of a historical event of their choice. The class studies the founding fathers, the creation of a new form of government, and the wars that have wracked our nation both home and abroad over the centuries of its existence. It inspires to impart a deeper appreciation of our homeland from its beginning roots to the global influence with which it impacts the world today.
