Cor Deo believes that students need to become not just readers of literature but critics and producers of it. The school also believes young people need to learn to express themselves effectively, both through the written word and the spoken word. The students of Cor Deo will develop skills in analyzing and critiquing literature and writing and speaking effectively through the interaction with classic literature from a variety of cultures and genres, both Christian- and secular-based.

The Bible is immersed throughout the year in class to demonstrate it's relevance to the past, present and future. In English classes students may learn some of their poetry by studying the Psalms, some of their public speaking and rhetoric from the sermons of Jesus, and much of their literary interpretation by learning to interpret the many genre of literature that the Bible contains.
